Charlotte Baker
Operations Director

Charlotte founded SSFA in 2013 while still a student, having spent her Year Abroad in Togo, Cameroon and Madagascar. She has a Modern Languages degree from the University of Oxford, and an MA African Studies from SOAS, University of London. A BBC journalist by background, she has held senior roles at the World Health Organization, Wellcome Trust and Greater London Authority, and now runs her own communications and engagement consultancy, specialising in public health, transport and environment. She has been interested in sustainable development in Africa for a number of years, and has visited Madagascar on many occasions since that first trip in 2013.

Rory Dilworth
Secretary
Rory is a junior doctor in the NHS, having studied Medicine at Warwick University. He has enjoyed volunteering with MENCAP, and taken an interest in Mental Health First Aid. Outside of this, Rory likes to have a few creative projects ticking over, either artistic or musical, and loves to be out and about in nature whenever possible. He will be helping SSFA with the legal documentation and advising on health projects. Rory visited Madagascar with his family in 2016 and saw SSFA's work there first-hand.

Helen Pye
Trustee; Social Media advisor
Helen is deputy head of digital communications at the Metropolitan Police - having previously worked for the Ministry of Justice, wedding magazine Hitched, the Mail on Sunday and the Press Association.
She studied theology at Oxford University, before doing a Master's degree in magazine journalism at City University. She has been a supporter of SSFA from the beginning and accompanied director Charlotte on a trip to Madagascar in January 2017 to see first-hand the work of SSFA. She is a huge fan or anything TV, film and theatre-related and loves travelling.

Prue Baker
Chair of Trustees

Prue graduated in German and Librarianship from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, and then worked in Higher Education for 10 years before joining Esso for a career in general management. Latterly, Prue was Managing Director and then CEO of the UK and European subsidiaries of multinational companies.
Prue sponsors children with Small Steps for Africa and bring her experience of compliance, regulation and general management to the charity.

In her spare time, she volunteers at her local museum and Parkrun.​

Matthew Short
Treasurer
Matthew worked as an electrical, electronics, and software engineer for the first half of his career, before setting up an award winning chocolate a company with his wife Diana in 2006. They worked closely with Chocolat Madagascar and partnered with the SSFA sponsorship programme in 2016. Matthew is passionate about sustainability, and leads the Community Solar buying scheme for his local zero carbon group as well as being an elected Town Councillor.

Tracey Baker
Trustee; Events Committee member
Tracey spent most of her professional life in the advertising industry, latterly as Managing Director of an agency specialising in travel marketing. She has a vast amount of communications and event organisation experience and conceived the charity's original fundraising project in Uganda.
She has recently retired from running her own OFSTED Outstanding childcare business and advises Small Steps for Africa on marketing and events matters, including organising SSFA's Annual Quiz Night.
